Reading Raiders get the Raid at Bath

It was a warm summer day at Melksham RFC’s Oakfields Ground and the hot conditions were a challenge for both sides but Reading Raiders got the win 46-20.
It was a tight contest in the opening stages but it was Reading who scored first with a converted try, 6-0 but it was not too long before Ben Shedwick went over for Bath with a rampaging run from 10 metres out, Sean Cole could not convert, 6-4.
Reading scored a couple more tries before the half time break with their full back Luke Schofield who was causing all sorts of problems and was unplayable at times, he was one of the main differences between the two sides. The half time score was 22-4 to Reading but Bath came out firing in the second half and scored first via debutante replacement forward Sam Pascoe barrelling his way over from close range, converted by Sean Cole, but again Bath allowed Reading to build some momentum with a couple of soft tries, but Bath stayed in the game with further tries from Jonny Green and Brandon Ball, Cole duly converting the final try.
The West of England League competition is highly competitive this season where anyone can beat anyone just about, the games are really good to watch particularly for the neutral. The club are now training twice per week to improve how they set up to play against different sides. On Saturday 8th June Bath have a trip to the seaside when they visit Somerset Vikings who play at Hornets RFC, Weston-Super-Mare. They have not lost yet this season so Bath will be looking to upset the form book.

The club train on Monday’s currently at Odd Down Sports Centre in Bath at 7pm. Please contact Chris Chatten on Mob: 07810 552196 or email: if you would like to partner/sponsor the club or indeed if you would like to play or get involved with Bath Rugby League in other ways.
