Heritage Number 15. Tom Culshaw

Tom ‘Culsh’ is another one of the longest serving players at the club. A well known and respected member of the local Rugby community. He rarely misses a game and always gives a 100% consistent performance, making tackles and good go forward in attack.

Tom’s main position is a second row, he can also fill in at centre/wing when required for the benefit of the team. He has a fantastic dry sense of humour, we also understand he has put himself forward as a local election candidate, vote Culshaw!

Tom commented about his time with the club:

“I sort of stumble across Bath Rugby League by accident. It seems to be one of the west counties best kept secret. It’s been great for me I love playing rugby, and in the union off season I’m bored witless looking for something to do, and a mate of mine said “Tom I’m going to Rugby League training for Bath tonight you want to come?” I thought yeah sounds like a great laugh and never looked back from that.

I’ve been very fortunate that I joined the club really early on so have been able to be there as it has grown. I’ve loved being apart of it as it’s developed. I think one of the most important things is when we as a club secured a qualifed coach with a Rugby League background (Matt Bodey). I love the game and passion can take you so far but it’s been great to have someone with that knowledge to develop you has a player and to help your understanding of the game and your skill set to grow. That has given us a great platform to build off.

One of the great positives playing Rugby League for Bath is it has given me is access to play Rugby League at a higher level. I’ve been lucky enough to be invited several times to train with and trial for the West of England side and play against several other regions in the South. It’s been really good as well that other players in our squad have been able to play up a level again and play for the Southern England Lionshearts team, and for me personally, it’s great to have that access to play at a higher level against good teams. I always want to be able to push myself and be the best player i can be and it’s been great that i can keep developing as a Rugby League player with Bath to be able to do that.”
